When we started Kenya Geographic, we had an inkling it was going to be a disruptive force in the travel industry in Kenya. Back then we were known as Enchanted Landscapes.
Three 3 years later we were on a winning streak again when we emerged the winner in the Microsoft Innovation Award for the best innovation in travel.
The innovation awards focus on Kenya’s Vision 2030 which aims to transform the country into a newly industrializing, middle-income nation providing a high quality of life to all its citizens in a clean and secure environment by the year 2030.
The awards have aligned themselves to the 3 pillars of this vision which are Economic & Macro Pillar, Political Pillar and Social Pillar and shortlists ideas that have the potential to accelerate the achievement of projects within these pillars.
In the same year, we were yet again finalists for the coveted Ecotourism Journalist of the Year award run by Ecotourism Kenya which pits giants in the ecotourism arena against each other in a showcase of green initiatives aimed towards ensuring Kenya remains a green travel destination of choice.
With the spotlight still shining on us, we realised we were onto something much bigger, more grander and hugely transformative. We have since been at this game of showcasing Kenya’s tourism gems a little different from the usual and hugely leverage on innovation to deliver an unforgettable travel experience for those who interact with our platform.
About a year and a half ago, we dared to dream even bigger. We launched version 3.0 of our website which kept our original idea of sharing off-the-beaten-path travel bucket list ideas through our rebranded blog but also, and perhaps, for the first time in the country, delivering unique travel itineraries, accommodation options and airline tickets through a homegrown Online Travel Agency (OTA) model.
This audacious leap of faith meant we had just thrown ourselves into the highly competitive and hugely tech-heavy arena of online travel booking dominated by bigwigs the likes of Booking.com, TripAdvisor and Jumia Travel.
It has since been a journey of many lessons and exciting discoveries as we work smart to carve our niche in this space. Each day has been a new learning point which has only fuelled our resilience and resolve to forge on to offer the first Kenyan OTA built by Kenyans for Kenya.
It was not long before payday came and it came in triplets! A few weeks ago we were elated to learn we had been nominated for the prestigious International Travel Awards, our biggest award yet.
Our website received the triple nominations of Africa’s Best Online Travel Agency, Kenya’s Best Online Travel Agency, and Nairobi Area’s Best Online Travel Agency. Truly, the sky is not the limit as God’s favour continues to make our star shine brighter.
We are now on the home stretch with the voting phase, upbeat to bag these awards. If you have already voted, thank you very much and God’s blessings.
If you have not, there’s still time. Just click the big, red VOTE FOR US button below and you will be taken to our voting page. Once there, the voting process is very simple.
Place a checkmark against each one of the 3 categories we have been nominated for, fill in your name and email address, confirm you are not a robot (very important) and click Vote! May the best brand win!
